Faith of a Child.

November 19, 2007 – 10:11 pm

We went and purchased a new Christmas tree. Our old one was too big and worked better when we had less toyage. I was tucking my daughter into bed and we were talking about her Christmas list and how Santa comes a few times to our house. I am kind of making it up as we go, but we decided last year to celebrate the Twelve Days of Christmas. There were several reason for this: stewardship - we can get presents after Christmas cheaper then before; our children enjoy playing with toys after they open them up, so this gives each toy a chance to be enjoyed; we can teach them about different saints of the church as each day we remember the faith of an individual in history; the wisemen gave gifts to Jesus on Epiphany; our families/extended families like to celebrate Christmas around Christmas, so our party is not conflicting with anyone else and it gives us a talking point about faith.

So, currently, Santa comes to our house at least twice (Christmas and Epiphany). I am not sure if he comes in between or not, I’ll keep you posted.

We were having a discussion about if the wisemen gave Jesus their presents 20 days after He was born would we get more presents because there are more days… Nice.

So, I tried to impress upon her that Christmas and Epiphany is about giving and it’s all because God gave Jesus to us. She shifted gears and began to talk about Thanksgiving and how she has these cards that everyone is supposed to write what they are thankful for on (music was playing in background the living room - Centre of My Life by Hillsong). She said she already finished her card and she was thankful for God.

I got choked up because I wonder what it is to live in her world. God is just so present and real to my kids. There is a naturalness to their faith that I seem to work so hard at. My kids are the best!

Oh - here are the lyrics to Centre of my Life (just imagine these words undergirding this senerio):

Let my walk speak loud
And my words be true
Let my life be whole
With my eyes on you
Lord I’m stepping out
From the comfort zone
Letting go of me,
Holding onto You

Freedom comes
When I call You Lord
You are Lord my God

You are the centre of it all,
The universe declares in awe
Your majesty
I surrender all
I make you
The centre of my life
Lord, I respond with all I am
you placed in me the song
Of heavens melody
Your Majesty
I live to sing Your song

I have found Your peace
It replaces any fear
You have done it all
I can trust in you
So I’m stepping out
From the comfort zone
Letting go of me
Holding onto you

This is your song not mine
It is your song that bring healing to this land
This is your song not mine
It is your song that brings feedom
Freedom comes, when I call you Lord
Freedom comes, when I call you Lord
You are Lord, my God
You are the song
You are the majesty
I live to sing your song
Your majesty
I live to sing Your song
