Copyright and the Church.
January 22, 2008 – 5:46 amI am bothered by the constant barrage of information that is put out by the Church with copyright protection. Who’s paying the estate of Jesus for the use of His stuff? Well, okay - he’s God so he’d probably let us use it, but Matthew on the other hand?
My view of the Church is that we should be leading positive social change. All of the major record companies, movie producers, book publishers, etc. are dealing with copyright issues and proprietary rights. How is it that we are not embracing free use or at least some kind of churchy Creative Commons idea? Call me crazy (and I probably want to make money just as much as anyone) but Jesus said something about storing up treasures… He also kinda asks us to follow…

One Response to “Copyright and the Church.”
your comment is kinda vague, in that it doesn’t specify what is being copyrighted or not. there are some things that i think are worthy of copyright & some not. example, a group of church people writes a curriculum and wishes to copyright sure why not.. now a church develops a ministry and trademarks the name copyrights the set up and stuff so that if someone put together a ministry that somewhat replicates the copyright ministry at any level they would be close to breaking the law.. that is wrong to me. what comes to mind is the willow creek reveal stuff being close to that 2nd example.
