For What.

This morning I was revisiting the devotion that was yesterday’s devotion for my children. It starts with Psalm 103:8-14 and tells a nice story about restoration and our need to be restored. As I listened to my wife read this to my daughter (who is 6 years old) and ask her the question at the end of the devotional, “Do you think you need to be restored?” the first thought that ran through my mind “for what?” You see she is wonderful and pure (even at six) and has a zest for life that is unmatched. Bad theology - maybe, but if your God - not so bad. Does she need restoration in Christ? Yes and her response was appropriately “yes.” Yet, again the thought ran through my mind, “for what?” She is so right with God, I really get what Jesus said - come to me as little children. I understand why we are “children of God.” But my children give me a “God-perspective” on how much God loves us and forgives us and how each day is a new day filled with God’s love. Because of God’s love for me and you, we wake up each day and God says, “For what! I love you!”
