Jesus and Body Art.
April 3, 2008 – 1:24 pmPiercings and tattoos seem to be more prevalent these days. I went into a convenience store a couple of nights ago and saw a young woman who had some piercings on her face and I wondered what she was about. I would have loved to sit down and understand her spiritual journey. It would have been fun to sit with her and ask her questions like why pierce your face, nose, body, etc. or what the tattoos were for. Totally not in a judgmental way, but just to understand how those things that mainstream society might consider deviant works in her journey through life.
Then I realized that she might ask me how giving in to the cultural expectations for “proper” or “normal” play into my journey through life. Have you ever seen the Sponge Bob when he becomes “normal” or read Matthew 7:1-6 and Matthew 7:13-14?
