Prizes and Awards!!!

April 7, 2008 – 9:04 am

Yesterday was a busy day. It was the standard morning of worship, then my daughter had the state championship for trampoline and double-mini and then off to see Courtney Bryan perform in Greenwich Village.

At the state championship my daughter did great! She got the bronze medal for each event and carried herself well.

Aside: This may sound crazy, but I feel like I earned those medals with her. Let me explain the feeling a little (and when I refer to “I,” it really is my wife and I, but if I refer to her winning with me then I have to share the medal with yet another person, anyway)… I have been driving her to an from gymnastics for a year (twice a week), I have paid for uniforms and practice time, I have encouraged, I have been stretched at times managing the different situations that have come up during these practices. I would say that it is at least a bronze medal. Maybe you’ve felt the same way.

At the end of the awards ceremony my daughter came up to me and said, “Next time I want to win sixth place!” Of course I said, “Why?” And wouldn’t you know she said, “Daddy, I want to win sixth place because the ribbon is pink!”

Maybe the prizes that we are seeking aren’t always the prizes that matter most. What prizes have you sought or achieved?

  2. Joe,

I understand your feelings completely. When our kids are involved in something, parents are seemingly just as involved. When my oldest son was involved in theater in high school, every audition and every musical it seemed like we were doing the part with hi, When my youngest plays baseball, I feel like I am part of the team. Not in a parent living vicariously sort of way, but just I invested a lot of time kind of way.

congrats to your daughter…and to you!

  3. Joe…
    Those are MY medals…not yours.

    Always remember that.
