The Apostles’ Creed
September 24, 2008 – 12:37 pmI believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
What do you think of the good old creed? Should we say it in church every week? Should we mandate that all of our confirmands and members memorize it?

One Response to “The Apostles’ Creed”
As a newcomer to the church, I have appreciated the focus on celebration and listening to sermons on the gospel. I am not excited about reciting a creed; I am more excited about exploring my relationship with God and Jesus. I believe that is the focus of a Christian faith. I do not know that reciting a creed will help foster that relationship.
Is it acceptable in the Methodist faith to refer to a Catholic church as it does in the creed? This is a question from a person raised as a Catholic.
