Credentialing Up
October 1, 2008 – 5:22 amEven though I [the Apostle Paul], too, have reason for confidence in the flesh. If anyone else has reason to be confident in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, a member of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew born of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless.
Even the Apostle Paul needs to put his credentials on the table at some point (this is from Philippians 3:4-6, NRSV) When I need to assert myself I tend to focus on my education (e.g., BA, MA, MDiv.) Like Paul, I also will talk about my family lineage.
When you feel the need to "credential up" what do you tend to talk about?
